ceterm [options]
"create ce terminal session"
DESCRIPTION:
Use this command to create a new ceterm window. Ceterm accepts
all of the options that are supported by ce; read the
'xresources' help file for complete details.
A ceterm window consists of the following components:
A. TITLE BAR
Indicates the shell type and process id; the client host's
name if you are using the local display with a remote shell;
indicators for insert, scroll, hold, and autohold modes.
B. TRANSCRIPT PAD
Contains the output of commands executed within the ceterm
process. This is a fully operational read-only ce window that
has unlimited history and correctly interprets ce key
definitions as if it were a cv (read-only) session. The
transcript pad can be saved if it is first associated with a
disk file via the 'pn' command.
C. INPUT PAD
Accepts input from the user and gives that input to the
ceterm process, normally a shell process such as ksh, csh, or
sh. The input pad is of variable size and will grow if (i)
the window is in hold mode and (ii) multiple input lines are
provided. The input pad is presented as a fully editable ce
window that correctly interprets ce key definitions as if it
were a ce (editable) session. Note the distinction between
the input pad and the command window (described below): the
input pad accepts input for the shell program (or whatever
other program may be running in the ceterm session), while
the command window accepts input for the ce editor to execute
ce commands on any of the other windows.
D. COMMAND WINDOW
Accepts input from the user and gives that input to the ce
editor. Since a ceterm session contains several windows, the
window to which the commands are applied is the window in
which the cursor was most recently located immediately prior
to moving the cursor to the "Command:" prompt. (The cursor is
usually moved to the "Command:" prompt via the ce 'tdm'
command which is usually bound to the Escape key.) The
behavior of the command window in a ceterm session is the
same as the behavior of the command window in a ce or cv
session.
E. OUTPUT WINDOW
Displays messages from the ce editor. Note the distinction
between this window and the transcript pad: the transcript
pad displays output from programs run in the shell, while the
output window displays messages from the ce editor (usually
in response to specific keystrokes or commands given in the
input window).
The primary difference between a ceterm session and a ce or cv
session is the presence of the input pad.
In the Command window, ceterm and cp are aliases for the same
command.
